Amorim’s Job On The Line Following Rashford Decision – Merson

Former Arsenal star, Paul Merson has claimed Ruben Amorim’s job at Manchester United is on the line following his decision to oust Marcus Rashford before he completed a loan move to Aston Villa.

Rashford left Old Trafford over the weekend to sign a loan deal with Aston Villa till the end of the current campaign.

Before deciding to leave for Villa Park on Sunday, the 27-year-old was linked with moves to AC Milan and Barcelona. He hasn’t played for United since their victory over Viktoria Plzen in mid-December.

Rashford, who has made 426 first-team appearances for the Red Devils since 2016, will be playing for a different team for the first time.

Merson has maintained that if Rashford finds his form again at Villa and United, who lost to Crystal Palace at home on Sunday, keep struggling, Amorim’s job may be in jeopardy.

What Did Merson Say About Amorim and Rashford?

“Ruben Amorim is running out of ideas at the moment,” Merson told Sky Sports News. “He’s struggling badly.

“What he’s done with the Rashford situation is mind-blowing.

“His job is on the line at this rate. If Rashford gets 10 goals in 10 games – and Manchester United carry on the way they’re playing – then the board will be asking the question: ‘What are you doing?'”

He added: “He might be one of them where the Villa fans and the manager open their arms to him and he will go: ‘I’m going to show that Amorim. You bad mouthed me, embarrassed me by saying I wouldn’t get in over a 63-year-old goalkeeper coach.’

“I think he can come back. It could end very badly for Amorim – he would be under severe pressure if they keep playing badly and Rashford starts ripping it up at Villa. He won’t be the Manchester United manager for long!”
