Ancelotti Admits Only One Real Madrid Star Played Well Against Barcelona

Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly admitted only one Real Madrid player had a good game during their Spanish Super Cup final defeat to Barcelona.

After five minutes, Kylian Mbappe scored a fantastic solo goal to put Madrid ahead, but Ancelotti’s side went behind 4-1 at the break.

Champions League winners Real Madrid were stunned by goals from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Alejandro Balde in the first half.

After the break, Barcelona increased their lead with Raphinha before Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for a foul on Mbappe outside the box, reducing Hansi Flick’s team to 10 men.

Shortly after the red, Los Blancos equalized, but Barca won the trophy for the 15 time, as there was no chance for a comeback.

According to The Metro, following the humiliating loss, Ancelotti expressed his sadness and disappointment, stating that Mbappe was the only Real Madrid player to leave the game with any credit.

“We have to look at the reality. We didn’t defend well,’ Ancelotti said in his post-match press conference.

“Tried to press high and defend with a low block. They scored the goals easily, and we didn’t work hard, collectively or individually.

“We lost a lot of duels. That makes us sad and disappointed, but that’s football. We have to take that sadness home.”

Asked if he was particularly disappointed with any of his players, Ancelotti added: ‘I won’t name anyone, I’m talking about the whole team.

“We didn’t defend well, we weren’t compact, and we have to defend better.

“I’d focus on Mbappe, who had a very good game. It was a great move to score the goal. But the rest we should forget about, and look forward.”
