Arsenal are not one of the seven contenders to win this season’s Champions League, according to Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian coach will pit his wits against Arsene Wenger and the Gunners in the last-16 of this season’s competition in the new year, but is of the belief that the Premier League side don’t have a realistic chance of going all the way.
“We’re [Bayern Munich] hoping to win it and if not, at least get to the final,” Ancelotti told AS.
“I can’t say I’m backing anyone else. There are seven sides this year who can win the trophy: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern Munich. At the moment, all seven are among the 16 best.”
Ancelotti has won the Champions League three time as a manager while Wenger is still waiting for his European crown.
The Gunners will be hoping for a change of fortune after having lost to Bayern Munich over two legs in the Champions League in four of the last five seasons.
