Carlo Ancelotti launched a scathing criticism on Real Madrid’s poor display in their Laliga opening game against Real Mallorca.
Los Blancos played out a 1-1 draw against Mallorca with Kylian Mbappe having a disappointing debut.
A few days prior, Mbappe scored his debut goal in the UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta. However, he was mainly ineffective against Mallorca, who managed to salvage a point against a Madrid team that were reduced to ten men following Ferland Mendy’s straight red card in stoppage time.
According to 90min, after the game, Ancelotti chastised his players for not going into the match with the proper mentality and admitted that his team was completely out of balance.
“Last year I was happy with some draws, but not today,” he said. “We could have done much better.
“I don’t want to make excuses. We just had to do better, with more attitude. You can learn from these games. It’s clear where the problem is.
“We started the game well, but it wasn’t a good game. We need to defend better. We need more balance. We’ve said it before, we’re very offensive and balance is essential.”
Mbappe faced criticism for his inability to get along with Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior, the latter of whom set up Madrid’s goal with the former.
Ancelotti also admitted that his attackers must be more conscious of their role within the squad.

“They swap positions sometimes. Sometimes one or the other occupies the position, depending on how they are doing,” Ancelotti explained.
“The problem is that the team was too open. We have to concentrate more, as we usually do. It’s not a physical or mental problem.”
