Anthony Gordon Completes Newcastle Transfer From Everton

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Anthony Gordon from Everton, making him the club’s second most expensive signing.

Throughout the week, there has been speculation that the England Under-21 international was eager to join St James’ Park.

While Gordon was permitted to miss Everton training on Tuesday, this was not the case on Thursday, and Gordon is said to have trained separately from the senior group on Friday.

Nonetheless, discussions between the parties were ongoing, with Everton looking for around £50m for the academy graduate at one point.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs eventually agreed on a £40m fee, with an additional £5m due in add-ons at a later date.

The 21-year-old is said to have signed a long-term contract with the North-East outfit, though the length has not been disclosed.

Speaking to NUTV, the 21-year-old said: “Since I heard of the interest, I was always convinced Newcastle were for me.

“I feel like it’s a really big step. People haven’t seen what I’m capable of yet. I think under the gaffer, and the way the club’s going, I can really excel here.”

Gordon joins Newcastle as an alternative to Chris Wood, who was allowed to join Nottingham Forest earlier in the January transfer window.

Despite the high price tag, Gordon has had a disappointing season, scoring three goals in 16 Premier League appearances in 2022-23.

However, Gordon was crucial in helping Everton avoid being relegated from the Premier League last year. He departs the Merseyside club with seven goals and eight assists from 78 appearances.

Gordon hopes to be in the squad when Newcastle United plays West Ham United in the Premier League on February 4.
