Argentina forward Yamila Rodriguez has explained her Cristiano Ronaldo tattoo, insisting that she has “nothing against” Lionel Messi.
Rodriguez has several tattoos, including one of Portugal star Ronaldo and one of Argentina’s World Cup-winning icons, Diego Maradona, on her left leg. Of course, Messi and Ronaldo have a long history of rivalry in La Liga, with the former representing Argentina and the latter representing Real Madrid.
According to The Athletic, Rodriguez was accused of being anti-Messi because of her tattoo of the current Al-Nassr star, but she claims he just inspired her more than her compatriot.

“Plz, enough,” she posted on Instagram. I’m not doing too well. When did I declare myself anti-Messi? Stop stating things I didn’t say, since the truth is that I’m not performing well (I’m in the middle of a World Cup, representing my country.) “I never said I’m anti-Messi and never would be. He is our captain of our national team – me saying that my inspiration and idol is CR7 (Ronaldo) doesn’t mean that I hate Messi. Just to me (we can all like different things) I like the other player better, the one that inspired me.
“What’s the problem? We’re not all obligated to love the players from our own country. Please understand that this is football and everyone has their own preferences and that lifting one player up doesn’t mean burying the other.”
