Liverpool manager Arne Slot was quick to console Darwin Nunez following his penalty failure in the Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
The visitors won 1-0 in regular time, thanks to Ousmane Dembele’s goal in the first half, and no additional goals were scored in extra time. This concluded in a penalty shootout, with PSG leading 2-1 when Nunez converted his attempt. The Uruguayan forward struck a shot to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s left, but the Italian goalkeeper deflected it with both hands in a well-regarded performance. His look conveyed it all. Nunez returned to the halfway line, apparently furious, before the next penalty was taken. Curtis Jones’ shot was similarly saved, and Desire Doue stretched PSG’s lead to an unassailable 4-1.

Nunez appeared heartbroken as the PSG players and traveling supporters shouted in celebration. However, Slot was right there, wrapping his arm around the striker and appearing to offer words of encouragement. Slot made a gutsy decision by placing the under-fire Nunez second in the shootout sequence.
So it was no surprise that the Liverpool manager instantly consoled the striker following his miss. Captain Virgil van Dijk was another player who backed Nunez and Jones during the Champions League setback.
