Liverpool are apparently considering AC Milan and Netherlands midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as an option to Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.
During the summer transfer window, the Reds appeared to be on the verge of bringing Zubimendi to Anfield, only for the Spain international to alter his mind and remain with his present club.
Zubimendi’s commitment on the pitch has not been rewarded, as Imanol Alguacil’s side has had a disastrous start to the 2024-25 season, finishing 12th in the La Liga league with only three wins from their first 11 games.

Real Sociedad’s dismal record in the current season comes despite Zubimendi playing the full 90 minutes in each of their last ten 10 top-flight matches, although he was on target for Spain in a 1-0 Nations League win over Denmark in October.
The Euro 2024 winner is still bound to Real Sociedad for another three years, but his team’s troubles in 2024-25 have understandably led to talk that he could execute another U-turn and seek a move to a Champions League-challenging side the following year.
Arne Slot admires ‘essential quality’ of Milan’s Reijnders
However, if Liverpool is denied again or decides not to renew their interest, Fichajes adds that Slot has identified Milan’s Reijnders as an alternative transfer option.
The pair worked together at AZ Alkmaar from 2019 to 2020, however Reijnders was limited to only three Eredivisie games that season and did not make a significant breakthrough until after Slot’s departure.
The 26-year-old stayed at AZ Alkmaar until the summer of 2023, when he moved to San Siro for £17.3 million, where he quickly established himself in the heart of Milan’s midfield.
Reijnders now has six goals and six assists in 61 outings for the Rossoneri shirt, scoring two goals and assisting on two others in 11 appearances this season, as well as starting all six of his country’s Euro 2024 games.
The Netherlands international can play at number six, eight, and ten, and Slot is said to like his versatility despite not giving him much of an opportunity at AZ Alkmaar.
