Arne Slot Signs New Feyenoord Contract Until 2026

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has officially signed a new contract, extending his stay with the Dutch champions until 2026.

The 44-year-old was considered as the best candidate to take charge of North London from the 2023-24 season as the Lilywhites look for a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte.

Feyenoord players were said to be concerned about Slot going for Tottenham, and Slot was said to be receptive to taking the job.

Slot, however, announced on Thursday morning that he will remain in Rotterdam, where he had been under contract until the summer of 2025.

As a result, Tottenham would have had to pay compensation to entice Slot away from his current club this summer, with Feyenoord reportedly demanding up to £10m to let him go.

Tottenham dropped their pursuit of the 44-year-old, believing that their interest was used to help him secure a better renewal with Feyenoord.

Slot was also linked with West Ham United and Crystal Palace, but he is now committed to Feyenoord till the end of the 2025-26 season.

In a separate press conference, Slot confirmed that he had held talks with an undisclosed foreign team, but he also claimed that no club had formally asked Feyenoord about his services.

Slot’s new Feyenoord deal is another setback in Tottenham’s search for a new manager to replace Conte, who has been succeeded on a temporary basis by Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason since leaving at the end of March.

However, Stellini’s stint as acting head coach ended after only 29 days following their humiliating 6-1 loss to Newcastle United, while Mason has only won one of five games in charge.
