Arne Slot had no complaints about Liverpool’s penalty against Southampton, despite the foul being very close to the line, and the Dutchman didn’t seem too concerned about Adam Lallana avoiding a red card — despite Roy Keane insisting the former Reds midfielder should have walked for his tackle on Ryan Gravenberch.
“In general, sometimes you could have made a different decision or not,” Slot told me. “But for me, offsides and assessing whether a ball is inside or outside are plain black and white. It was a foul, which was obvious, so if they saw it was inside, sure, it is a penalty.
“Sometimes with a knock or a red card, yes or no. There was also an incident in the first half that raised the question of whether it was a red card or not. You may argue about those things, but you can’t argue about offside, inside or outside the 18-yard box.”

Keane, who was on punditry duties for Sky Sports, said Liverpool should have played against ten men for the majority of the game. Lallana received a yellow card for his challenge, and the contact was just low enough on Gravenberch’s leg to prevent VAR, Michael Oliver, from intervening.
“He’s not in control,” Keane stated. “He isn’t even looking at the ball! Right at the last second [he looks]. Listen, I would have been dismissed for it. I would have done it! One hundred percent. There would have been no complaints.
