Arsenal have made a move to hijack Everton’s £17m move for Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez, according to the Mirror.
Everton had agreed a deal and even personal terms but Arsenal came in last night for the 27-year-old.
Perez scored 17 goals last season and earned rave reviews despite Deportivo La Coruna struggling against relegation.
Mirror Sport understands Perez is now in advanced negotiations with Arsenal and they are very hopeful of completing the deal.
Arsenal have been looking for a striker and a defender but appeared to have shelved plans for a forward.
But they are now in the mix and even though there is work to be done, Perez has put Everton on hold amid Arsenal’s late move.
As well as netting 17 times last season, Perez has already scored once this season.
The former Atletico Madrid youth man has played as both a left winger and centre-forward over the course of his career but it was last season as a striker that he really blossomed.
At PAOK he was used almost solely from the left flank, but was more of an inside forward than a classic winger. He has an eye for a good pass but goals are his real drive. The Spaniard likes to cut inside when playing from wide.
