Paris Saint-Germain and Netherlands playmaker Xavi Simons has returned to RB Leipzig on loan for the 2024-25 season.
The 21-year-old made a mark in the Bundesliga during his first loan spell with Die Roten Bullen in 2023-24, scoring 10 goals and assisting 15 others while winning the German Super Cup.
Simons’ performances at the Red Bull Arena came after he had a fantastic season with PSV Eindhoven in 2022-23, scoring 22 goals and assisting 12 times before PSG, unsurprisingly, exercised their €4 million (£3.4 million) buyback option.

The 2003-born playmaker is now a fully-fledged Dutch international and played a big role in Oranje’s march to the Euro 2024 semi-finals, setting up three goals before opening the score against England in the last four with a long-range rocket. Reported on X
Simons’ rise to prominence for club and country eventually drew interest from the Premier League, with both Arsenal and Manchester United said to be monitoring his situation in Paris.
Simon feels “valued” and “at home” in Leipzig
However, the 21-year-old has returned to Leipzig for a second loan spell, though PSG has stated that the German team does not have the option to make the contract permanent, implying that Simons will return to the Parc des Princes in 2025.
After his transfer was finalized, Simons told the official Leipzig website that he felt “valued” and “at home” at the Red Bull Arena. He will wear the number 10 shirt for Die Roten Bullen.
“I got everything I desired when I moved to Leipzig. I joined an excellent team and felt that everyone trusted and believed in me. I was able to develop as both a player and a person—RB Leipzig is the perfect place for you to do that,” Simons said.
“On top of that, the club values me and has made it known over the previous few months that they want to sign me. They laid out a clear and concise plan for me for the upcoming season.
