Arsenal has entered the contest to recruit Palmeiras wonderkid Vitor Reis, but will face competition from Real Madrid, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Barcelona.
Reis has impressed since making his debut in Brazil’s Serie A earlier this season, with 11 appearances. His performances earned him a new contract in the summer, committing him to Palmeiras until December 2028.
In terms of playing style, the defender has been compared to Marquinhos of PSG and Eder Militao of Madrid. While he has yet to receive a senior call-up, he has played 13 times for Brazil’s youth teams, all as captain.
Reis has already piqued the interest of several of Europe’s biggest clubs, with a serious transfer fight anticipated to ensue. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Barcelona all showed interest, but Arsenal and Madrid are leading the way.
According to The Athletic, both parties have made preliminary inquiries with Palmeiras and Reis’ representatives about a prospective transfer. While no formal approach has been made, Palmeiras has made it known that they want to keep the defender until after the 2025 Club World Cup.
The contract he recently signed does, however, have an £83 million release clause, which could mean a trade is finalized sooner. While Arsenal has plenty of defenders, the 18-year-old’s potential makes him a desirable signing.
The Gunners face a significant challenge because they already have two outstanding centre-backs in Gabriel and William Saliba. However, Reis is able to play at right-back, and the Gunners can provide Reis with a similar pathway to the likes of Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White
“My goal is to win titles with Palmeiras and establish myself. Every player dreams of donning the national team’s colors.
