Arsenal have suffered a setback as they plan their squad for next season, with Real Madrid now eager to keep Dani Ceballos.
The midfielder impressed under Mikel Arteta’s guidance in the final months of his loan spell at Arsenal and helped the Gunners to win the FA Cup.
Arsenal want to call upon Ceballos again next season and it appeared that they had a good chance of doing so either by signing him permanently or bringing him in on another loan deal.
However, as reported by AS, Real Madrid have now altered their stance on Ceballos and see him as a player who can make a significant impact for them next season.
Ceballos has made 56 appearances for Real so far and Zinedine Zidane has faith in the 24-year-old, viewing him as a long-term replacement for Luka Modric. Zidane is looking to make alterations to his squad following the club’s Champions League exit.
Although Ceballos would welcome a return to Real, he wants to make sure that he plays regularly next season so that he can secure a place in the Spain side at Euro 2020.
Real Betis, the club where Ceballos started his career, have also been linked with him.
If Arsenal are unable to bring Ceballos back they will have to focus on alternative options in the transfer market as they will still surely need to bring in at least one new midfielder.
