Arsenal are reportedly close to signing young Poland international defender Jakub Kiwior from Serie A side Spezia.
The 22-year-old came through Anderlecht’s youth system before spending time in Slovakia with Podbrezova and MSK Zilina before joining his current club in the summer of 2021.
Kiwior quickly established himself as a Serie A regular, making 43 appearances in all competitions for Spezia, helping them in staying in the top flight in the 2021-22 season.
The Poland international has already started 17 Serie A games for Spezia this season, and he was a consistent starter for Poland at the 2022 World Cup.
Despite making his senior international debut in June 2022, Kiwior played every minute of Poland’s Group C campaign, leading them to the last 16, before playing 87 minutes in a last-16 loss to France.
Kiwior’s contract with Spezia runs until the summer of 2025, but according to Polish outlet Meczyki, Arsenal is close to signing the young center-back.
According to the report, talks between the two clubs are ‘very advanced,’ and the Premier League leaders will pay €25m (£21.9) to sign Kiwior on a five-and-a-half year contract.

Kiwior’s medical is expected to take place in the coming days, with Arsenal having beaten Juventus, Napoli, and AC Milan to the defender’s signature.
Kiwior, a left-footed midfielder, will primarily provide backup and competition for Gabriel Magalhaes, but he has also played as a left-back, left-wing back, and defensive midfielder in his career.
The Poland international will almost certainly become Arsenal’s second signing of the January transfer window, as the Gunners work to complete a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Leandro Trossard.
