Michael Owen has described Arsenal as “the most consistent team in the world.”
The Gunners need a miracle to avoid a seventh consecutive last-16 exit in the Champions League after again losing 5-1 to Bayern Munich and have fallen 13 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.
With just the FA Cup again the only viable chance of silverware this season, the pressure on Arsene Wenger from fans continues to mount but Owen in unsurprised by their plight.
“I think Arsenal are the most consistent team in the world,” he told BT Sport.
“Everyone says ‘we get to a stage and underperform’ but Arsenal are just so consistent. They come third or fourth every year in the league. They get knocked out in the final 16 every year of the Champions League.
“They’re the same every year and they have been for 10-12 years, exactly the same. They beat all the rubbish teams in the Premier League or the group stage of the Champions League.
“As soon as it comes to Bayern Munich or Manchester United or Chelsea, they get beat. They’re so consistent, they’re a level below.”
Arsenal are back in action, after a 12-day break, on Saturday as they travel to Anfield to face top-four rivals Liverpool.
