Arsenal Gain An Improbable Title Boost After Premier League Rejects Liverpool Plea

According to reports, the Premier League has rejected down a request to reschedule the upcoming Merseyside Derby game. Liverpool and Everton were both looking for a new date for the match, which was scheduled for April 2.

Everton will go to Anfield on April 2, followed by a midday match at home against Arsenal less than 72 hours later. The two Merseyside clubs had discussed moving their respective games forward, which, if granted, would have given David Moyes’ side more time to heal ahead of their weekend match.

According to The Mail, both Everton and Liverpool saw advantages in moving their match to April 1. However, the Premier League is believed to have said no.

It is not apparent when such a request was made. On February 28, the Premier League confirmed its April TV schedule, with Sky Sports airing the Merseyside Derby and TNT Sports broadcasting Everton vs Arsenal.

Liverpool enters the forthcoming matchups with a 12-point lead at the top with only nine matches remaining. They went into the international break having lost back-to-back defeats for the first time this season.

After Paris Saint-Germain knocked Arne Slot’s Reds from Europe, Newcastle defeated them 2-1 in the Carabao Cup Final. “It’s part of football to lose to strong teams,” Slot confessed after the defeat at Wembley.

“Ideally, you spend the entire season winning, winning, winning. But it is possible to lose twice in a row after eight months of football if you play against Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle.”
