Arsenal Hold Key Advantage Over Chelsea In Mathys Tel Transfer Chase

Arsenal appear to have thrown a kink in Chelsea’s plans to sign Mathys Tel before the January transfer window ends on Monday evening.

This month, the 19-year-old attacker has been widely linked with a move to Chelsea as Enzo Maresca seeks to strengthen his offensive options.

Earlier this month, Tel surfaced as a potential Blues target. Chelsea reportedly contacted Bayern Munich about a prospective trade for the France Under-21 international, who has only made two Bundesliga appearances this season.

Following an initial enquiry last summer, the west Londoners, who have long admired Tel, inquired with the Bavarians about his availability to sign. Despite Bayern’s interest, Chelsea is thought to have declined to negotiate or give Christopher Nkunku as part of a swap deal.

Unfortunately for the Blues, they do not appear to be the only team pursuing Tel’s signature. According to The Independent, Arsenal are ‘investigating a move’ for the Bayern Munich teenager, with Mikel Arteta looking to improve his offensive options this month.

According to the article, Tel was previously on the Gunners’ radar, but higher-ups were’surprised’ to learn that he had become available. The German giants are reportedly interested in keeping the Frenchman, whose contract at the Allianz Arena expires in June 2029.

Tel, a young star, is interested in joining Arsenal because of their status and the possibility of increased playing time – which appears to be more promising than at Chelsea, where offensive options are plenty.

The forward’s time at Bayern has been difficult, but club officials remain supportive.
