Arsenal icon Emmanuel Petit believes Mikel Arteta is the front-runner to succeed Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Since his arrival at the Etihad in July 2016, Guardiola has had English football under his thumb, with just a third-place finish in his debut season and one runner-up slot marring an otherwise dominating rule that’s seen City take six out of eight potential Premier League crowns.
The only thing that ended an untarnished seven-year run was Liverpool’s 2019–20 victory, reports Daily Star
With his contract expiring next summer, there are rumblings that Guardiola may be calling it quits after winning a European triple two seasons ago.
Now, Arsenal icon thinks that if the Spaniard’s contract is allowed to expire, Arteta, is the one who should show up to take over his enormous shoes.

Petit believes that Arteta is ideally suited for a comeback, having gained experience as a coach at City under Guardiola.
“Over the past two years, Pep Guardiola has started to exhibit indications of lack of energy.
“Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool was a huge blow for Guardiola because he had that competition to push him to be at his very best.
He’s not a worse manager now, but I think he does look tired, and mentally, it takes a lot of energy to be a manager at the highest level.
