On Wednesday, Arsenal will return to Champions League action at the Santiago Bernabeu when they play Real Madrid in the second leg of their quarterfinal match.
At the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners shocked everyone by thrashing Los Blancos 3-0, thanks to a brace from Declan Rice and a brilliant finish from Mikel Merino.
In the lead-up to the match, UEFA confirmed the referee, Frenchman François Letexier, who will officiate Real Madrid against English opponents in the Champions League.
The Spanish powerhouses are known for a comeback and particularly under the lights at the Bernabeu.
Arsenal is leading, but a goal for the home team could drastically alter the atmosphere in the Spanish capital and Arsenal still needs to be at their best to secure a spot in the semi-finals, reports London World.
When Letexier officiated Real Madrid’s 3-3 second leg draw with Manchester City in 2024, the Blancos had a 2-1 lead entering into the match, fell behind 2-1, fell behind 3-2, and then equalized to make it 3-3 and go to the semi-finals.
It’s interesting to note that Letexier has officiated many European matches but has never officiated a competitive Arsenal match, so the Gunners will have no idea what to anticipate.
