Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes his old club’s season is in danger of unravelling after back-to-back defeats against Everton and Manchester City that leave them nine points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.
The former Gunners defender knows what it takes to win the title, having done so three times in his career with the club, but also knows they are very capable of crumbling under pressure.
Arsenal have a history of choking when it comes to the big games, and haven’t won the league since all the way back in the 2003/04 season, when Keown was still playing.
When asked if Arsenal’s season could fall apart in a question-and-answer session with the Daily Mail, Keown said: ‘I think we all know that.
‘Trips to Everton and Manchester City are good examinations of how you are as a team and it was tough for both to come in the same week.
‘This is a team that is susceptible to losing confidence when they have bad results. We saw it earlier in the season when Arsenal had a run of three draws in four games, against Middlesbrough, Tottenham and Manchester United.
‘Arsenal need to ignore the recent bad results. Arsene Wenger will be working really hard in the background trying to get that belief and swagger back.’
