Arsenal ‘Make Contact’ With Premier League Opponents Over The £100 Million Star

Arsenal are back in second place in the league after Manchester City defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 last night. Pep Guardiola’s side leads the Gunners by two points heading into the season’s last match, but the latest transfer reports suggest that these two sides will continue to battle into June.

The Emirates and Etihad Stadium clubs are alleged to have’made contact’ with Newcastle United player Bruno Guimaraes’s camp. According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs of CaughtOffSide, Arsenal are looking for a quality midfield signing after Thomas Partey battled with injuries and a lack of replacements for Granit Xhaka.

Guimaraes, who has 15 goals in 85 Premier League games for Newcastle, would be a perfect answer, with Jacobs adding that the Gunners have already joined Manchester City in commencing talks about a potential trade when the summer transfer window starts in two weeks’ time.

According to the source, the Gunners are unlikely to face opposition from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, who had initially targeted the 20-time Brazilian international but have since shifted their focus to Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva.

In his report, Jacobs stated: “Newcastle also do not want to lose Bruno Guimaraes, but the decision may be taken out of their hands if someone triggers his £100 million release clause, which is applicable between late May and the end of June.

“As long as the clause is active, Newcastle will simply point to its value, but it is understood that offers exceeding £80 million may be considered if Guimaraes wishes to leave for a Champions League club.” Guimaraes is happy at Newcastle, although both Manchester City and Arsenal have contacted his team.
