Arsenal Makes Contract Decision For Thomas Partey, As Barcelona Leads A Three-Club Hunt

Arsenal are unlikely to grant Thomas Partey a new deal, leaving him free to join Barcelona or two other European giants.

Manager Mikel Arteta has regularly gone to Partey, a former Atletico Madrid midfielder who can also play right-back, but he may not be available next season because his contract expires in June.

According to journalist Charles Watts, who closely follows Arsenal, the north Londoners have not began discussions for Partey’s new contract and have no intention of doing so. If the 31-year-old becomes a free agent in July, he will have no shortage of suitors.

Barcelona, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain have all been listed as interested parties, with Saudi Arabia also reportedly casting adoring glances. However, Partey is said to desire to remain in Europe.

Along with Partey, Arsenal are poised to lose midfielder Jorginho. The Italy international drew considerable attention from Brazilian club Flamengo during the winter transfer window, but his move was blocked by Arsenal.

Arteta will still have Declan Rice and Mikel Merino as defensive midfield alternatives next season, while Arsenal is pursuing Real Sociedad’s pivot Martin Zubimendi. They have competition from Manchester United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid, but are optimistic of securing the highly regarded Spain international.

If the Gunners decide to go with a more experienced central defender, they may increase their interest in Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich. The German national team captain is mired in a public feud with his present employers, but, like Partey, he is due to become a free agent this summer.
