Arsenal Manager Edu ‘very Interested’ In Unsettled £52 m Star, With An Offer Already Placed

Arsenal’s sporting director Edu is’very interested’ in Paris Saint-Germain starlet Xavi Simons, who reportedly wants to leave the club this summer. Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and RB Leipzig are also interested in signing the 21-year-old, but a high price tag may reduce down the hunt ahead of the transfer deadline.

Simons was an internet celebrity while attending Barcelona’s prestigious La Masia program. Instead of attempting to break into Catalonia’s ultra-competitive first squad, the Amsterdam-born offensive midfielder moved to France.

Despite making only a few appearances for PSG’s senior team, Simons’ stock has risen dramatically, primarily during time away from Parc des Princes. He scored an incredible 19 league goals during his time at PSV Eindhoven last season and has thrived on loan at RB Leipzig this season, with 18 goals in 31 Bundesliga outings.

As the summer transfer window closes, the quest for Simons’ signature heats up. According to Sport, RB Leipzig has already made a formal offer to sign him on a permanent basis, but PSG is yet to accept.

A return to Barcelona is thought to be the player’s favorite option. However, a price tag of just under £52 million would practically take La Blaugrana out of the running, with Xavi prioritising recruitment in other areas of his squad.

Leipzig’s unsuccessful proposal, along with Barcelona’s financial limits, opens the door for Bayern Munich and Arsenal. Edu, the Gunners’ transfer chief, reportedly has scouts watching Simons rip it up in the Bundesliga this season.

And the north Londoners are one of the few teams in Europe with the financial resources to make a play for Simons. Manager Mikel Arteta may require attacking additions as Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson, and Eddie Nketiah’s futures remain uncertain.
