Arsenal Might Lose 2nd Spot To Manchester United, Says Pundit

After seeing their Premier League title bid derail, football pundit Simon Jordan thinks Arsenal are in danger of being overtaken by Manchester United.

The Arsenal are now four games without a league victory, allowing rivals Man City to close the gap on them. City’s 3-1 away triumph at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday sees Arsenal knocked off top spot for the first time since August.

Mikel Arteta’s youthful side have seriously impressed this season, with City star Kevin De Bruyne hailing Arsenal as an ‘exceptional’ team, while Bernardo Silva said the young Gunners remind him of Pep Guardiola’s side five years ago.

However, it was City who had the look of champions as they put Arsenal to the sword amongst a breathtaking atmosphere in north London.

It was not the dominant performance the scoreline suggested, with City’s 36 per cent possession the lowest share of the ball a Guardiola team has ended a league game with in his entire coaching career.

Simon Jordan admitted that he can see Arsenal’s slide continuing unless they improve very quickly, and could even be overtaken by Manchester United next with the Red Devils only five points behind them in third place.

What Was Said About Arsenal

“I thought the atmosphere was exhilarating – the Arsenal fans, the Arsenal players and the Arsenal manager are all aligned,” said the White and Jordan host on talkSPORT.

“No longer can you make allegations of the Emirates being a library, this is a proper football stadium and proper football fans getting behind their side.

“So the atmosphere, certainly when they got back in the game and equalised, it was absolutely off the charts. As good as you’ll see anywhere.

“But how much did the title pendulum swing back in City’s favour? I think probably quite a long way.

“I think ultimately Arsenal wouldn’t have needed to be so dependent on that result if they had taken care of Brentford and Everton perhaps the way they should have done.

“There was also a calmness about City, even when they were being put under pressure. And Arsenal were the architects of their own downfall from goals they conceded and the chances they missed.

“They were very much in this game. The second-half performance was a bit more dominant from City.

“But Arsenal had some real gilt-edged chances to score that they didn’t take.

“There is no doubt in my mind watching Arsenal yesterday and the nature of the fans’ support that this is a side that will inevitably win the Premier League title in the next couple of years.

“They’re a good side, a good unit, a well-coached team, but I don’t think they will do it this season.

“And I think they might even get pipped by Manchester United for second spot.”
