Arsene Wenger says Arsenal no longer need to prove their fighting spirit, after coming from behind six times to pick up at least a point in the Premier League this season.
On Saturday the Gunners went behind to Stoke City, with Granit Xhaka’s foul on Joe Allen allowing Charlie Adam to score from the penalty spot in the 27th minute.
However, Theo Walcott levelled for the hosts before half-time, with goals from Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi making it 3-1 in the second half to give Arsenal all three points, and extend their unbeaten run in the league to 14 games.
Wenger was pleased with his side’s resilience, telling the Daily Mail: “It’s the sixth time today that we are down in the game and come back since the start of the season.
“That is not a coincidence. It doesn’t happen just because you say ‘come on, you have to keep fighting.’ That means there is something in the team that is quite strong, but after that we have to keep the spirit.
“The spirit as well is quite fragile you know, we have to keep the energy in the side and everybody has to take care of that.”
This resilience will surely be needed during the busy festive period with a trip to Everton on Tuesday evening before they travel to title rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
The Gunners are three points behind league leaders Chelsea as they look to win the league in their French boss’ 20th season at the club.
They also find out their opponents for the knock-out stage of the Champions League when the draw is made in Switzerland later today.
Although they won their group they could still meet the likes of Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the last-16.
