Arsenal are already in the transfer market following a successful season which sees them have the best defensive record where they concede just 29 goals in the league.
The defensive duo of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes ensured such feat was achieved. Nevertheless, Mikel Arteta is reportedly in the market to add another centre back to the team’s roster.
According to The Sun As reported by Caught Offside, the Gunners boss is eyeing a move for Benfica defender, Goncalo Ignacio.
The 22-year-old Portugal international is said to be on the radar of Liverpool and Manchester United, but Arsenal are now believed to be in the fray.
Arteta intends to strengthen his defense by providing more depth and protection for his starting centre-back duo of Gabriel and Saliba.
Inacio made his Sporting debut in October 2020.
He has since grown into one of the most exciting prospects in the Primeira Liga.
He has also established himself with the Portugal national team under Roberto Martinez.
As a result, Sporting are prepared to wait for an offer that is comparable to the £52 million release clause in Inacio’s contract, which expires in June 2027.
In order to defeat Man City and win the Premier League the following season, the Gunners are prepared to strengthen both their defense and their attack.
