The seven-year-old son of Arsenal legend Robert Pires has followed in his father’s footsteps by signing for the north London club.
Former France international Pires confirmed the news on social media.
“That’s it ! Theo signed for the Arsenal Academy!!! Well done son!!!! #proud,” Pires wrote on Instagram.
Pires Snr joined Arsenal from Marseille in 2000 and enjoyed six trophy-laden years at Highbury.
The 42-year-old won three FA Cups, two Premier Leagues and two Community Shields during his time with the club.
He featured in all but two of Arsenal’s top flight matches in their infamous Invincibles season, scoring 14 times and notching 11 assists in 36 games.
Pires’ Arsenal career ended in disappointment though, as he was substituted 18 minutes into the 2006 Champions League final against Barcelona after goalkeeper Jens Lehmann was sent off.
He would later describe the incident as “the worst moment in my career” and added he would never agree with boss Arsene Wenger that he made the correct decision to withdraw him.
