Aaron Ramsdale has already stated his willingness to compete with David Raya for the position of Arsenal’s No. 1 goalkeeper.
Raya’s medical appointment has been scheduled for later this week after it was announced yesterday that Arsenal and Brentford had struck an agreement.
For the upcoming season, Mikel Arteta will now have two solid first-choice alternatives in goal. It’s also a role reversal for Ramsdale, who had to replace Bernd Leno as Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeper when he originally came at the Emirates two years ago.
The 25-year-old took just a few games to take over as the Gunners’ No 1 and has made the position his own over the past two years.
Arteta was seemingly not content with just having Ramsdale as the main option in goal though with Raya emerging as a top target for Arsenal.
With a deal now reportedly agreed, Arteta will have some tough decisions to make this season regarding his goalkeeper department. Some have criticised Arsenal’s decision to spend £30m of their budget bringing in a back-up goalkeeper.
However, Ramsdale doesn’t seem fussed by the challenge. In fact, he’s ready to embrace it.
What Ramsdale Said About Raya’s Imminent Arrival
When asked on ITV what he was thinking about initial reports of Arsenal looking at signing another goalkeeper, Ramsdale confidently replied: “Bring it on.”
Ramsdale shrugged his shoulders while issuing his response in a clear message to Raya’s imminent arrival at the Emirates.

He added: “Nothing comes easy in football. But also at the same time you need to move along, and need to adapt as well yourself.
“I’ve done it to other people when I’ve moved to clubs so I’m not going to be thinking that it’s never going to happen to me. I think if it happens, it happens and then we’ll fight and we’ll make each other the best version of ourselves.”
