The 33-year-old, who was born and reared in Brazil before relocating to Europe as a teenager, has played more than 50 games for Italy at the senior international level.

If a deal is not struck to keep him at the Emirates Stadium, he will become a free agent in the summer once his contract with Arsenal expires in June.

In January, Flamengo, a top-tier Brazilian team, expressed interest in signing Jorginho. Arsenal is still interested in the former Chelsea player ahead of the summer, despite their reluctance to make a move at the time.

Last weekend, Jorginho’s agent saw Flamengo defeat Fluminense to win the Campeonato Carioca championship. Currently in Rio de Janeiro, Jorginho and his spouse have clarified that they are merely taking a vacation during the international break.

“I don’t think I missed anything. However, I would like to feel what it’s like to play in Brazil now,” Jorginho said.

José Boto, Flamengo’s sporting director, stated that he is waiting for Jorginho to decide whether to join the team after hearing rumors that he will be offered a three-year deal worth about £8 million, reports Standard.
