Arsenal Star Undergo Surgery Set To Miss Remainder Of The Season

Arsenal defender, Takehiro Tomiyasu has reportedly undergone a successful surgery on his knee and is set to be on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

Tomiyasu, who came off the bench for the last six minutes of a 3-1 victory over Southampton, has just made one appearance this season.

The Japan international had surgery to fix a knee problem that has been bothering him.

According to The Evening Standard, it is not anticipated that Tomiyasu, who made his surgery announcement on Tuesday night, will return before the season ends.

“I’ve had a surgery on my knee few days ago and I’ve already started my rehab to do what I love the most again,” Tomiyasu said in an Instagram post.

“It has been the toughest period in my career for sure and it carries on a bit more but I won’t give up. Thank you for your support and see you again.”

Given that Tomiyasu is a flexible defender who can play anywhere in the backline, Arsenal have suffered greatly from his absence.

The 26-year-old played a variety of positions for Arsenal, including left-back, where he thrived last season.

“I always say that I’m really confident the moment Tomi has consistency, because it’s going to be a tremendous asset for us,” Mikel Arteta said last season.

“He can play in any position in the backline, any formation in the backline — we don’t have a player like him.
