Arsenal have been tipped by bookmakers to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus.
The Gunners are still trying to negotiate contract extensions for Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, but with the talks dragging on Ladbrokes have priced them at 11/4 to sign Reus in the summer.
Reus has been at Dortmund since 2012, but following injury he has been struggling for game-time under manager Thomas Tuchel this season and is 5/1 to make a switch to north London in January.
Arsene Wenger is keen to agree new contracts for Ozil and Sanchez, whose current deals expire in 2018, but the wage demands of both players have seen talks stall for the time-being.
Both are demanding new weekly wages of over £200,000 per week – figures that would destroy the Gunners’ current wage structure.
Instead of give in to their demands Wenger might be tempted to sign Reus either as a direct replacement, or as back-up in case they leave.
Reus, who can play anywhere across the front line and would fit into Arsenal’s most common 4-2-3-1 system, has made just four appearances in the Bundesliga this season as he returns from injury.
The German international has however scored four goals in just two Champions League games this season, with a hat-trick in the remarkable 8-4 win over Legia Warsaw followed by the crucial 88th-minute equaliser against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
Ladbrokes News’ Richard Marsh said: “With the future of Sanchez and Ozil still uncertain, Reus could be drafted in to be Arsenal’s new hero.”
