Arsenal will have a problem if one of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil picks up a long-term injury, according to Emmanuel Adebayor.
The Gunners are seeking to win a first Premier League title since 2004 and have been indebted to the form of the Chilean international particularly to still be in with a chance – no matter how slim they appear to be at present.
Alexis has scored 14 goals and weighed in with seven assists in the league, while Ozil has become more of a goal threat rather than a creator of goals so far this season and Adebayor has questioned if his former club could cope in the absence of either.
“At Arsenal I reached a time when everything I was doing turned into goals,” Adebayor told the Guardian.
“We all have that – the one, two or three years where you are right at the top. We should have done it that year, but missed some experience and the team was quite young.
“Arsenal have a good team but if Sanchez gets injured I don’t know who they’ve got. If you look at Chelsea, when Hazard gets injured they’ve got Willian; if Willian gets injured they can still play Moses further forward.
“Arsenal’s problem is that today they are just Ozil and Sanchez. If one of them gets injured, it is a problem.”
Arsenal head into Sunday’s clash with Burnley at the Emirates Stadium eight points behind league leaders Chelsea and will be well aware that there is little margin for error in terms of the title race.
Following the game with the Clarets, the north London face Southampton in the FA Cup fourth round at St Mary’s, then host Watford at the end of the month before an important meeting with Chelsea on February 4.
