Noticias de Gipuzkoa claimed on Thursday that Arsenal had made their initial proposal of roughly €30 million to sign Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino this summer. It was also reported that he is close to joining the Premier League club.
According to Friday’s issue of Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners have yet to make a formal offer for the 28-year-old.
The midfielder has less than a year left on his contract and has not accepted a renewal offer. His future could be away from La Liga, and Arsenal is one of the clubs interested in recruiting him.
Mikel Arteta wants the Spain international, and Arsenal is ‘determined to go all in’ to sign him. Despite this, the Andalusian club is currently unaware that the Gunners are contemplating an offer.
In truth, the north London club has not yet initiated talks with Real Sociedad about signing the Euro 2024 winner.
Merino is enjoying his break and will return to training next Monday. According to Mundo, La Real is waiting for Arsenal or another team to make an offer, but they doubt that any of them would make a convincing deal before August 5th.
Atlético Madrid is the only team to have made an offer to Real Sociedad, but Merino has rejected them.
Merino has not yet spoken with La Real, who are aware that his departure is ‘gaining strength’. There may be developments when he returns from vacation next week.
