Aston Villa ‘On The Offensive’ To Beat European Giants To Next Transfer

Aston Villa are reportedly in the clear to sign Lutsharel Geertruida, with transfer rivals Paris Saint-Germain taking a reactionary attitude on the player.

Supporters are eager to see if Villa can add to their £150 million summer additions before the window closes on August 30. Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix is among the top targets, though Chelsea’s re-entry into the picture appears to have muddled matters somewhat, while Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida remains prominently linked.

With Villa Park and the French capital rumored as probable destinations for the versatile 24-year-old, a late Champions League clash might be on the horizon. However, the most recent report implies that Unai Emery and Co. have the greater aim at the moment.

According to Sebastien Denis of French daily Foot Mercato, Villa are ‘on the offensive’ in order to complete the signing of the Dutch international. PSG, on the other hand, is claimed to have made no moves for Geertruida since their previous offer at the beginning of July.

Whether this provides Villa an advantage remains to be seen, but a proactive attitude and willingness to make the signing may be more appealing to the player than PSG’s current posture.

Until a real offer arises, Geertruida appears to be focused solely on Feyenoord. He played the entire 90 minutes of their recent Eredevisie opener against Willem II, while manager Brian Priske answered reporters’ concerns about the situation at full time.

“When it comes to transfers, after a game I do not like to talk about who is going out, who is coming in,” he told ESPN. “It’s always a big puzzle to make the squad complete in the transfer window that is this long and with a new coach.”
