Aston Villa Open To Selling Arsenal Transfer Target This Summer

Aston Villa Open To Selling Arsenal Transfer Target This Summer

Aston Villa are reportedly hoping to sell a number of players in the summer transfer window in a bid to stay within the limit of Premier League spending rules.

Last season, Villa saw Everton and Nottingham Forest eight and four points respectively due to financial breach. And it has been revealed that players may depart before June 30, which is the deadline for the 2023–24 accounting period.

The maximum loss permitted by the current profitability and sustainability regulations (PSR) for top-flight clubs is £105 million spread over three years.

A report from Daily Mail disclosed on Monday that Villa had submitted a proposal to their fellow Premier League teams, recommending an increase in the cap to £135 million. The club hoped to have a vote on the proposal at the June 6 shareholders’ meeting.

Since an abrupt shift is unlikely, Villa will need to consider player sales, of which Luiz is a prime candidate.

Luiz has been linked with multiple clubs since last season of which Arsenal are very much interested in securing his services.

With two years left on his deal, the Brazilian is also an attractive figure to Juventus, who are willing to offer between £25 and £30 million in addition to USA international Weston McKennie.

Colombian forward, Jhon Duran is another player who can leave for the right offer, and midfielder Jacob Ramsey is another.

Since Ramsey is a homegrown player, any transfer fee that Villa receive would be considered pure profit in accordance with PSR regulations.

Nonetheless, Villa will make every effort to reject offers for Ollie Watkins, their most prize asset who finished the previous season with 27 goals across all competitions.
