Atletico Madrid Intend To Make Two Signings Once Correa Leaves For Saudi Arabia

If no sales occur, there will be no signings. Atletico Madrid made this clear in January. However, Angel Correa’s potential departure to Saudi Arabia would expand their options.

According to Football Espana, Correa reportedly has a €60 million contract offer from the Middle East and is considering accepting it this January, assuming the unnamed Saudi club can reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid. Late Thursday night, it emerged that Los Rojiblancos were already considering fellow Argentine Thiago Almada as an alternative.

However, he may not be the only reinforcement. According to Marca, Sporting Director Andrea Berta will look to sign a forward to replace Correa as well as a central midfield player. Diego Simeone has long desired a deeper central midfielder, following a lengthy pursuit of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the summer, which was unsuccessful due to financial constraints. They do go on to say that bringing in two players will be difficult, and Berta may need to work some numbers magic.

Axel Witsel is a central defender that Simeone has regularly used; he seems to have more faith in him there than as a midfielder. The only options left for that deeper position are Pablo Barrios and Koke Resurreccion, neither of whom may possess the defensive instincts Simeone would like.
