Atletico Madrid are reportedly not willing to allow Julian Alvarez leave next summer in a huge blow Liverpool.
Fernando Hidalgo, the player’s agent, stated over the weekend that the Reds had inquired about acquiring the Argentina striker from Manchester City last year prior to his move to La Liga for £80 million.
With 23 goals in 44 games this season, Alvarez has been in outstanding form for Atletico, helping to maintain Diego Simeone’s team’s chances of winning the domestic title.
According to Liverpool Echo, Carlos Busero, the sporting director for the Spanish team, has denied a story that Liverpool had already approached Atletico about signing the 25-year-old during the upcoming transfer window.

“The talk about Liverpool submitting an official offer to sign our player Julian Alvarez is incorrect,” said Busero to 365scores. “What is being circulated is just rumours.
“Alvarez is a key and important player in our project, and we have no intention of letting him go. The player himself is not paying attention to these rumours.”
Given the rumors regarding Darwin Nunez’s long-term future, Arne Slot has previously stated that Liverpool are looking to get a new number nine this summer.
The Reds turned down a Saudi Arabian bid for the Uruguayan in the January transfer window.
