Bale on the scoresheet but Wales held to frustrating draw at home to Georgia

Wales suffered another setback in their World Cup qualification campaign as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Georgia.

There has been a feelgood factor surrounding Wales of late, with manager Chris Coleman having led his side to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 before overseeing a 4-0 victory over Moldova in their opening qualifier.

However, it isn’t a foregone conclusion that Wales will be able to secure a place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, with last week’s 2-2 draw with Austria being followed by this stalemate.

It initially appeared that Wales would dominate proceedings, with Gareth Bale putting them ahead with a powerful header in the tenth minute.

However, Georgia battled bravely in Cardiff, with Tornike Okriashvili scoring in the second half, and the visitors had opportunities to take all three points.

Wales struggled to play their usual, free-flowing game, perhaps as a consequence of the fact that they were without Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen, who missed the match after suffering a hamstring problem against Austria.
