Barça’s last training session before the first leg against Atlético Madrid had a casualty: full-back Aleix Vidal has a mild hamstring problem and will miss the next 7-10 days of action.
Because of that timetable, Vidal is out of both legs of the quarterfinals and also the difficult trip to the Anoeta Stadium for a tough match with Real Sociedad on the weekend.
Vidal joined the first team in January alongside Arda Turan after both players had to wait six months to enter the pitch due to Barça’s transfer ban. Since entering the squad, Vidal has had his ups and downs while learning the system on the fly.
His first two months were very impressive, and he appeared to emerge as a reliable backup and maybe competition with Dani Alves for a starting place on the team.
But his last few weeks have been disappointing, and Aleix has slowly started to fall in the squad rankings.
He was left out of the eighteen for El Clásico when his participation was being considered, and if he had any chance of playing in the European Cup against Atlético, this injury does not help.
