FC Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City on a two-year deal.
The 32-year-old will join the Catalan club as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Gundogan was the captain of the Cityzens when they won the historic treble (Premier League, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League) in the just concluded campaign.
The club announced the deal on their official website fcbarcelona.com: “FC Barcelona and Ilkay Gündoğan have reached an agreement for the German international to sign for the Catalans now that his contract with Manchester City has ended.
“He will join for two seasons, through to 30 June 2025, with the option to stay for one more year. His buyout clause has been set at 400 million euros.
“The club shall shortly be announcing the details of his official presentation.”
The 32-year-old midfielder spent seven years at the Etihad after swapping Borussia Dortmund for the club in 2016. Manager Pep Guardiola has openly expressed the desire to keep him there longer.
In advance of his contract expiring at the end of this week, Gundogan was in negotiations with City on a new agreement.
Instead, he signed a two-year deal with LaLiga winners Barcelona that also included a 12-month option. His release clause has been set at €400 million.
