Barcelona sporting director Deco is said to have devised grandiose plans to attack Manchester City for Erling Haaland in 2025, but if the Norwegian goal-bot is not signed, the LaLiga giants would bring back a quality former player instead.

Since joining Pep Guardiola’s team in the summer of 2022, Haaland has scored an incredible 101 goals in 107 games. Just two goals behind colleague Kevin De Bruyne, the 24-year-old may potentially move into second place on their all-time top scorers list this season, which is now held by Joe Hayes (141).

His prospects of surpassing Sergio Aguero’s all-time goal record of 260 (set in 390 games) will depend on how long he stays with Manchester City.

Haaland has been linked with Real Madrid since relocating to the northwest, as they try to take advantage of his contract’s escape option. According to Marca, the figure was set at €200 million in summer 2024. However, with no side triggering that, it is expected that the cost will fall to €175 million (£146.7 million, $193 million) in summer 2025.

As a result, Spanish daily Sport now believes Deco is ready to go all out to recruit Haaland next year, with the City star named as their primary target and the guy considered as capable of challenging the impressive squad arch-rivals Real Madrid are putting together.

Incredibly, if they are unable to persuade Haaland to make the move or find the financial package required to sign him, president Joan Laporta is said to be focusing on bringing Neymar back to the Nou Camp – seven years after the 32-year-old left for PSG in a world-record €222 million (£198 million, $260 million) deal.
