Barcelona have confirmed that Lionel Messi is set to miss three weeks of action after the forward sustained a groin strain on Wednesday evening.
Messi was seen to pull up early in the second half of Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid and had to be replaced moments after, with Arda Turan replacing the Argentinian.
The Spanish club have announced that the 29-year-old is now set to miss three weeks of action with the set-back, in what is a bitter blow to the side’s early season hopes.

Speaking on the injury Luis Enrique said: “To lose Messi means that football loses. With Messi we are stronger, but we will continue being strong.”
Messi is now likely to miss La Liga clashes with Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo as well as the Champions League tie with Borussia Monchengladbach next week.
The given time-line suggests however that the No.10 should be back in action in time to face Manchester City in the European tournament in October.
Messi has already netted four goals in the Spanish top flight this season but now Neymar and Luis Suarez will need to carry the attacking burden for Barcelona.
