Barcelona and Athletic Club forward Nico Williams’ representatives have apparently reached an agreement on personal matters.
According to Spanish journalist Jota Jordi on El Chiringuito TV, Nico Williams is attracting attention from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have been looking for a wide attacker during the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Chelsea is interested in the Spanish international, but the Athletic Club attacker has a contract with Barcelona.
The quick rise of Nico Williams
Nico Williams is emerging as a world-class player at Athletic Club. The Spaniard is a Pamplona native who started his youth career at CA Osasuna before moving on to Athletic Club. Since getting into the first-team squad, the kid has emerged as a key figure for the Basque club.

The 21-year-old was outstanding in the 2023/24 season, scoring 27 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions, including eight goals and 19 assists. Furthermore, Williams is a regular in the final third for Spain and has performed admirably at UEFA Euro 2024.
Meanwhile, the Spanish international attacker’s accomplishments for his club and nation have not gone unnoticed.
Chelsea’s interest in Nico Williams is understandable. The West London club’s attackers have not been effective enough in the last two seasons, with Cole Palmer shouldering the most of the load in the final third in 2023/24. So, Williams is a feasible target for Chelsea, despite his desire to join Barcelona.
The Catalan giants have long been interested in the Spanish international, and they want him and Lamine Yamal to be the offensive torchbearers for years to come. Barcelona and Williams have now reached an agreement, with both parties finding common ground on personal matters.
However, Barcelona may struggle to raise the sums required to trigger Nico Williams’ release clause in his contract with Athletic Club. This can create a window of opportunity for Chelsea and other European bigwigs as they look to prise him away from the Basque outfit.
