Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar is on Barcelona’s radar.
Barcelona are considering January moves for Chelsea stopper Antonio Rudiger and Schar, according to the Athletic.
Barca coach Ronald Koeman is desperate to strengthen his squad after an underwhelming start to the season which sees the club lie fifth in LaLiga, eight points behind leaders Atletico Madrid having played a game more.
The Dutchman is adamant he requires a new centre-back and is believed to have identified Manchester City defender Eric Garcia as a key target to help rejuvenate the squad.
However, the Catalan giants are struggling financially having been hit hard by Spain’s shutdown and an enormous squad wage bill. City are not prepared to do their counterparts any favours next month despite Garcia’s contract expiring in June.
Alternatives are being considered, with Chelsea and Germany defender Rudiger, 27, and Newcastle and Switzerland centre-back Schar, 29, among the options.
