Cash-strapped Barcelona is facing the grim prospect of losing up to TEN academy players during the summer transfer window. Barcelona’s strong first season under Hansi Flick has been based on the abilities of La Masia graduates such Pau Cubarsi, Alejandro Balde, Marc Casado, Gavi, and Lamine Yamal.
The young players, two of whom are still teens, have helped Barcelona grab the lead in this season’s LaLiga title battle, reach the Copa del Rey semi-finals, and emerge as one of the favourites to win the Champions League. However, the foundations of the club’s future era could be pulled from beneath them as their financial problems persist.

Barcelona’s return to the rebuilt Camp Nou has been postponed multiple times, causing the club, which has played its men’s first-team matches at the city’s Olympic Stadium since August 2023, to miss out on critical cash despite having previously sold VIP seats. During his four-year tenure, President Joan Laporta has also used many ‘levers’ to raise additional revenue, including the sale of the club’s television rights.
However, Barcelona continues to struggle with player registration, as evidenced by the contentious situation involving £50 million summer signing Dani Olmo, who was temporarily prevented from playing in January. LaLiga officials initially determined that Olmo and teenage striker Pau Victor could not be registered until the summer because Barcelona did not have enough space within the league’s pay cap.
According to Catalan Sport, Barcelona could be forced to part ways with up to ten players from their current under-19 squad this summer. The majority of the talented group of young people are only contracted until June 30, and they would be free to depart at that point.
