Barcelona Defender Set To Stay Put After Shift In Market

Barcelona Defender Set To Stay Put After Shift In Market

Barcelona defender, Eric Garcia is reportedly set to remain at the club beyond the January transfer window.

It appeared that Garcia may be leaving the Blaugrana at this time last week to return north to Girona, but that move now appears to be much less likely. It appears that the Catalan giants will keep him through the summer at least.

Garcia is now closer to finishing the season at Barcelona as a result of Juventus’ pursuit of Ronald Araujo and the possibility of his transfer.

According to Sport as reported by Football Espana, Garcia would prefer to play for Barcelona through the conclusion of the season, and the club would only let go one central defender in January; if Araujo leaves, Garcia will remain.

Garcia may still go in the summer if Barca doesn’t show any signs of providing him a new deal. Both Girona and Real Sociedad expressed interest in him this winter and last summer, and they may be possible destinations.

The Laliga giants’ position makes sense, and even though it lowers Garcia’s value, they stand to lose far more if Araujo is sold in the summer without a new contract being reached than if the former does.

Both players have contracts that expire in 2026, so Barcelona must decide within the next six months.
