Barcelona Director Confirms Neymar’s Return Was Never An Option: ‘Very Pricey’

After a difficult stint in Saudi Arabia, where his career was hampered by injuries, Neymar appears to be heading back to his youth club, Santos.

The attacking superstar may soon return to the Brazilian team as he enters the final chapter of his career.

In the midst of conjecture linking him to a return to Santos, Barcelona sporting director Deco was recently questioned about the Brazilian and his chances of returning to Catalonia.

Deco discusses the possibility of bringing back Neyma

In a recent conversation, Deco was asked if Barcelona ever considered bringing back Neymar.

“Neymar’s return to Barcelona was always unlikely. We knew he was a highly costly player when he moved to Saudi Arabia, especially in terms of financial fair play,” he added (source: SPORT).

Barcelona was linked with a transfer for Neymar, particularly during his spell with Paris Saint-Germain.

However, the Catalan club was never able to achieve a financial accord, as PSG was always demanding a large sum. Even Neymar’s pay was prohibitively expensive for the club.

When asked about Neymar, Deco voiced his excitement at the potential of his return to Santos.

“The most important thing is that Neymar returns to football. It will provide joy to both himself and others. I honestly don’t know what he’ll do, but his happiness is the most essential thing,” he explained.

Deco went on to praise Neymar as one of the best players in the world, particularly when in his environment.

“At his best, Neymar is one of the best players in the world. He still is and he always will be. He’s welcome at any club in the world. An operation regarding him can never be ruled out, but I see him returning to Brazil right now,” he announced.
