As Barcelona prepares to face AS Monaco in their UEFA Champions League opening later tonight, Ansu Fati might make his season debut today, hoping to restore his spot among world football’s elite.
Indeed, having returned to the squad list for tonight’s game, the 21-year-old Spaniard is eager to prove his worth at Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.
A difficult road.
After being troubled by injuries from 2020 to 2022, the attacker spent last season on loan at Brighton, where he struggled to find the necessary consistency.
However, the season before he moved on loan, when Barcelona won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup under Xavi, he managed to score ten goals despite not being a regular starter.

Ansu is now determined to resurrect the promising form that earned him the honor of inheriting Lionel Messi’s renowned No. 10 shirt. He is guided by Hansi Flick, in whom he has complete trust.
Ansu was keen to make his debut against Girona last Sunday, but the coaching staff wanted to be cautious, and Flick chose to hold him back for tonight’s encounter against Monaco.
Fati faced an additional risk because he had not played an official match since May at Brighton. His loan tenure was hampered by a muscle ailment that held him out for 13 games, however he did contribute in the later part of the season.
Fully committed.
Ansu is now full of enthusiasm, fully devoted to his teammates and Flick’s mission. He is more communicative than in past seasons, displaying physical strength in his upper body while being quick on his feet.
Fati is close friends with Alejandro Balde and Ronald Araujo, both of whom understand the struggles of significant injuries. He also has a solid bond with Gavi and is creating good chemistry with Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal as he returns to the pitch.
A good debut today would be an excellent result for a brilliant player who deserves another chance after his setbacks.
