Barcelona have reportedly reduced their pace in the potential signing of Arsenal and Bayern Munich transfer target, Martin Zubimendi.
The Catalan Club are still looking for a perfect replacement for Sergio Busquet, who left the club last summer.
Zubimendi appeared as the ideal candidate, but his €60 million release clause coupled with the club’s financial situation meant a deal never materialised.
Even so, Zubimendi has been frequently mentioned regarding a transfer to Barcelona, who are still looking for a new defensive focal point before the summer transfer window opens.
But according to Fabrizio Romano as cited by Barca Universal, there has been no update regarding Barca’s pursuit of Zubimendi.
Instead, Arsenal and Bayern, two more formidable European teams, are vying for the services of the Spanish international.
Zubimendi has been on Arsenal’s radar for a while, and they have him on their summer wish-list.
Bayern, meanwhile, are also very interested in the Real Sociedad star. However, a move for him would depend on the appointment of the new manager, as Thomas Tuchel is expected to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.
As Zubimendi’s situation appears to be quiet, Barcelona are considering a number of other players for the pivot midfield position.

Everton and Belgium midfielder, Amadou Onana looks to be one of the main targets. But the Catalan giants will face obstacles due to his €60 million asking price.
The sporting department, under the direction of Deco, is also looking at more economical options like Mats Wieffer of Feyenoord and OGC Nice’s Khephren Thuram.
